Mole removal

Small benign moles can be precisely removed using the Er:YAG laser, which ablates the lesion layer by layer with exceptional accuracy. The surrounding skin remains intact and the result heals cleanly with minimal scarring in most cases. Local anaesthetic is used for all mole removal procedures. Pricing depends on the number and size of moles to be removed and is confirmed at consultation.

Safety First · Histology Policy

Any mole or lesion that appears concerning in appearance is not removed at this practice without being sent to histology first. Dr Barker assesses every lesion carefully before treatment. Where there is any doubt about the nature of a mole, he will refer for a biopsy or dermatology opinion before proceeding. The histology cost is billed separately and directly by the pathology laboratory. This is non-negotiable.

Skin tag removal

Skin tags are small, soft, benign growths that commonly appear on the neck, underarms, eyelids and body folds. They are entirely harmless but can be cosmetically bothersome or catch on clothing and jewellery. The Er:YAG laser removes them cleanly and precisely in a single session, with no cutting, no stitches and minimal recovery. Local anaesthetic or topical numbing cream is used depending on the area and number of tags being removed.

Multiple skin tags can be treated in a single session. The treated area heals quickly, typically within a few days for small tags. Pricing depends on the number and size of skin tags and is confirmed at consultation.

Wart removal

Warts are caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV) and can be stubborn and resistant to over-the-counter treatments. The Er:YAG laser destroys the wart tissue with precision, ablating the lesion and disrupting the viral cells responsible for its growth. This is one of the most effective approaches for warts that have failed to respond to topical treatments, freezing or other conventional methods.

Common warts on the hands and fingers, plane warts on the face and body, and verrucae on the soles of the feet can all be treated. Some warts require more than one session depending on their size, depth and how long they have been present. Dr Barker will advise clearly on the expected number of sessions at consultation.

What This Covers
Common warts (hands and fingers)
Plane warts (face and body)
Verrucae (plantar warts)
Periungual warts (around nails)
Warts resistant to other treatments
Multiple warts in a single session

Xanthelasma removal

Xanthelasma are yellowish, flat deposits of cholesterol that form on or around the eyelids. They are benign and painless but cosmetically noticeable, and tend to grow gradually over time rather than resolve on their own. The Er:YAG laser is a well-established and effective approach for their removal, ablating the fatty tissue layer by layer with precision while minimising damage to the delicate surrounding eyelid skin.

Because xanthelasma form on the eyelids, treatment requires care and accuracy. Local anaesthetic is applied before the procedure and protective eye shields are used throughout. Most patients see significant clearance over a series of sessions, with results improving progressively.

Dr Barker recommends a lipid profile blood test for patients with xanthelasma who have not had one recently, as they can be associated with elevated cholesterol. This is purely precautionary and does not affect suitability for treatment.

What This Covers
Xanthelasma on upper eyelids
Xanthelasma on lower eyelids
Bilateral eyelid deposits
Early and established xanthelasma
Multiple lesions treated per session
Periocular fat deposits

Milia removal

Milia are small, white or yellowish keratin-filled cysts that form just beneath the surface of the skin. They are most commonly found around the eyes and cheeks and are entirely benign. They do not resolve on their own. The Er:YAG laser opens and ablates the cyst cleanly and precisely, removing the trapped keratin without damaging surrounding skin.

Multiple milia can be treated in a single session. The procedure is quick and well tolerated. Healing is minimal as the lesions are very superficial. Results are immediate once healing is complete, typically within a few days.

Periorbital milia (around the eyes)
Milia on the cheeks
Milia on the nose and forehead
Multiple milia in a single session
Primary milia (spontaneous)
Secondary milia (post-injury or procedure)

Seborrhoeic keratoses

Seborrhoeic keratoses are extremely common benign skin growths that appear as raised, rough, waxy or wart-like brown or tan patches. They are entirely harmless but can be cosmetically bothersome, particularly when they appear on the face, neck, chest or hands. The Er:YAG laser ablates them cleanly and precisely, removing the raised growth without damaging the surrounding skin.

Multiple seborrhoeic keratoses can be treated in a single session. They do not recur at the treated site once removed, though new ones may appear elsewhere with age. Dermatosis papulosa nigra, a variant commonly seen on darker skin tones presenting as multiple small dark papules on the cheeks and around the eyes, responds particularly well to Er:YAG laser removal.

Common Questions

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a consultation before lesion removal?
For moles, yes — always. Dr Barker assesses every mole before removal to confirm it is benign and appropriate for laser treatment. For skin tags, milia and warts, a brief assessment at the time of treatment is usually sufficient. WhatsApp Dr Barker to describe your concern and he will advise on whether a formal consultation is needed first.
Will there be scarring after laser lesion removal?
Minimal scarring is the goal in all cases, and for most benign lesions the Er:YAG laser achieves a clean result with minimal to no visible scarring. Larger or deeper lesions carry a slightly higher risk of a small flat mark remaining. Dr Barker discusses expected healing and outcomes clearly at consultation for each lesion before proceeding.
Can multiple different lesion types be treated in one session?
Yes. Skin tags, milia and seborrhoeic keratoses can all be treated in the same session if they are in manageable locations. Dr Barker will assess all lesions at consultation and confirm what can be treated together efficiently and safely.
What happens to a mole that looks unusual?
It is not removed. Dr Barker will refer for a dermatology opinion or arrange histology before any laser treatment proceeds. This is non-negotiable and applies to any lesion where there is any doubt about its nature. Patient safety always takes precedence over convenience or speed.
Is laser better than surgical removal for lesions?
For most small benign lesions, Er:YAG laser removal produces excellent results with no cutting, no stitches and faster healing than surgical excision. For larger or deeper lesions, or where histology is required first, surgical excision remains the appropriate approach and Dr Barker will refer accordingly.
How long does healing take?
It depends on the lesion type and size. Milia and small skin tags heal within a few days. Larger skin tags, warts and moles typically heal in 1 to 2 weeks. Xanthelasma around the eyelids takes 5 to 10 days. Dr Barker explains the expected healing timeline for each lesion at consultation.
