The Fotona Er:YAG laser ablates benign skin lesions layer by layer with exceptional precision. No scalpel, no stitches, minimal scarring. Moles, skin tags, warts, xanthelasma, milia and seborrhoeic keratoses are all treated in a single in-office session. Dr Barker assesses every lesion personally before proceeding.
All lesions below are removed using the Fotona Er:YAG laser in ablative mode. The laser precisely removes the lesion layer by layer without damaging surrounding skin. Local or topical anaesthetic is used. Multiple lesions can be treated in a single session. Scroll down for full details.
Small benign moles can be precisely removed using the Er:YAG laser, which ablates the lesion layer by layer with exceptional accuracy. The surrounding skin remains intact and the result heals cleanly with minimal scarring in most cases. Local anaesthetic is used for all mole removal procedures. Pricing depends on the number and size of moles to be removed and is confirmed at consultation.
Any mole or lesion that appears concerning in appearance is not removed at this practice without being sent to histology first. Dr Barker assesses every lesion carefully before treatment. Where there is any doubt about the nature of a mole, he will refer for a biopsy or dermatology opinion before proceeding. The histology cost is billed separately and directly by the pathology laboratory. This is non-negotiable.
Skin tags are small, soft, benign growths that commonly appear on the neck, underarms, eyelids and body folds. They are entirely harmless but can be cosmetically bothersome or catch on clothing and jewellery. The Er:YAG laser removes them cleanly and precisely in a single session, with no cutting, no stitches and minimal recovery. Local anaesthetic or topical numbing cream is used depending on the area and number of tags being removed.
Multiple skin tags can be treated in a single session. The treated area heals quickly, typically within a few days for small tags. Pricing depends on the number and size of skin tags and is confirmed at consultation.
Warts are caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV) and can be stubborn and resistant to over-the-counter treatments. The Er:YAG laser destroys the wart tissue with precision, ablating the lesion and disrupting the viral cells responsible for its growth. This is one of the most effective approaches for warts that have failed to respond to topical treatments, freezing or other conventional methods.
Common warts on the hands and fingers, plane warts on the face and body, and verrucae on the soles of the feet can all be treated. Some warts require more than one session depending on their size, depth and how long they have been present. Dr Barker will advise clearly on the expected number of sessions at consultation.
Xanthelasma are yellowish, flat deposits of cholesterol that form on or around the eyelids. They are benign and painless but cosmetically noticeable, and tend to grow gradually over time rather than resolve on their own. The Er:YAG laser is a well-established and effective approach for their removal, ablating the fatty tissue layer by layer with precision while minimising damage to the delicate surrounding eyelid skin.
Because xanthelasma form on the eyelids, treatment requires care and accuracy. Local anaesthetic is applied before the procedure and protective eye shields are used throughout. Most patients see significant clearance over a series of sessions, with results improving progressively.
Dr Barker recommends a lipid profile blood test for patients with xanthelasma who have not had one recently, as they can be associated with elevated cholesterol. This is purely precautionary and does not affect suitability for treatment.
Milia are small, white or yellowish keratin-filled cysts that form just beneath the surface of the skin. They are most commonly found around the eyes and cheeks and are entirely benign. They do not resolve on their own. The Er:YAG laser opens and ablates the cyst cleanly and precisely, removing the trapped keratin without damaging surrounding skin.
Multiple milia can be treated in a single session. The procedure is quick and well tolerated. Healing is minimal as the lesions are very superficial. Results are immediate once healing is complete, typically within a few days.
Seborrhoeic keratoses are extremely common benign skin growths that appear as raised, rough, waxy or wart-like brown or tan patches. They are entirely harmless but can be cosmetically bothersome, particularly when they appear on the face, neck, chest or hands. The Er:YAG laser ablates them cleanly and precisely, removing the raised growth without damaging the surrounding skin.
Multiple seborrhoeic keratoses can be treated in a single session. They do not recur at the treated site once removed, though new ones may appear elsewhere with age. Dermatosis papulosa nigra, a variant commonly seen on darker skin tones presenting as multiple small dark papules on the cheeks and around the eyes, responds particularly well to Er:YAG laser removal.
