About Sculptra®
The long game. The best result.
Sculptra® (poly-L-lactic acid) has been used in medicine for decades and has one of the longest safety records of any injectable aesthetic product. It works by triggering a controlled inflammatory response in the tissue, which stimulates fibroblasts, the cells responsible for collagen production, to lay down new collagen fibres in the treated area. Over the following weeks and months, these fibres build into a structural scaffold that restores volume from within.
The result is fundamentally different to what HA fillers achieve. Rather than a foreign substance sitting in the tissue to create volume, Sculptra® causes the tissue itself to become denser, thicker and more structurally sound. Cheeks and Midface
The cheeks are the primary area for Sculptra® treatment. As the malar fat pad descends and thins with age, Sculptra® rebuilds the structural foundation of the cheek, restoring youthful projection and lifting the lower face indirectly.
Temples
Temple hollowing is one of the most ageing changes in the face and one of the most overlooked. Sculptra® in the temples restores the full, rounded temple of youth, improves the frame of the face and gives the eyes a more open, less skeletal appearance.

Patience is the strategy
Sculptra® requires a different mindset to HA filler. There is no instant gratification. What there is instead is a result that builds progressively into something truly exceptional, and lasts far longer than anything else available without surgery.

Day 1 to 3
Immediate post-treatment
Some swelling from the injection fluid gives a temporary preview of the volume that will come. This resolves within a few days and the face returns to its pre-treatment appearance. This is expected and does not indicate the final result.

Week 2 to 6
Collagen stimulation begins
The poly-L-lactic acid microparticles begin triggering the collagen response. No visible change is apparent yet but the biological process is well underway. This is when the five-times-daily massage protocol is most important.

Month 2 to 3
Early improvement visible
Subtle improvements in volume, skin quality and facial contour become visible. The change is gentle at this stage. A second session is typically performed around this time to continue building the collagen response.

Month 4 to 6
Full result emerges
The final result becomes clearly visible as collagen matures. Volume is restored, contours are lifted and skin quality is visibly improved. Most patients at this stage feel they simply look like a younger, healthier version of themselves.

What to Expect
Your treatment, step by step

Consultation and Facial Mapping
Dr Barker assesses the face in full, identifies areas of volume loss and structural deterioration, and maps out a Sculptra® plan. He will recommend how many vials are needed, how many sessions are required and what realistic results to expect.

Preparation
Sculptra® is reconstituted with sterile water several hours before treatment. Topical anaesthetic is applied to the treatment areas. The product contains lidocaine to improve comfort during injection.

The Treatment
Dr Barker injects Sculptra® into the mapped treatment areas using a precise technique. The full session takes 30 to 45 minutes. He massages each area thoroughly after injection to ensure even distribution of the product.

The Critical Massage Protocol
After treatment, Dr Barker will instruct you to massage each treated area for 5 minutes, 5 times a day, for 5 days. This is non-negotiable with Sculptra® and significantly reduces the risk of nodule formation. Dr Barker will demonstrate exactly how to do this before you leave.

Follow-up Sessions
Most patients require 2 to 3 sessions spaced 6 to 8 weeks apart for a full course. Dr Barker reassesses at each visit and adjusts the treatment plan based on the collagen response observed. He is available via WhatsApp between sessions for any questions.
